Kia Sedona key replacement

It can be that your Kia Sedona has just a regular key without any features, or you may have a Chip key that will need to be programmed to your SUV. What kind of a key your Kia Sedona requires depends on the year of your SUV.

  • If your Sedona was made in the years 2002, 2003, 2004, or 2005, then most likely your Sedona does not require a chip key or what people will call a transponder key. Your SUV will require just a regular key that is easy to make, You can use a couple of places to make these keys. The first place will be a Kia dealership. At a Kia dealership you can get a new key made and all you will need to do is stop by and show proof of ownership. Your drivers license and car title or registration will be good enough proof. The second way, and fastest way, will be to call an automotive locksmith. The automotive locksmith will be able to come to your SUV location and cut you a new key right on spot. We always recommend that you shop around for prices between the Kia dealership and locksmith companies.
  • If your Kia Sedona was made in the years 2006, 2007, 2008, or 2009, then it is possible that your Kia key will need to be programed to your SUV immobilizer. This means that besides cutting your SUV key, the technician will need to connect his programing machine to your Kia’s computer. You can have these keys made by your kia Dealership or by a locksmith company. The difference between the two will be the cost and the type of service. If your Kia requires a transponder chip key, the locksmith will be able to come to your SUV’s location and make you a working key right there. The dealership will ask you to tow the vehicle in.

Kia Sedona key stuck in ignition
If your Kia Sedona key gets stuck in the ignition there are two reasons why this may have happened. The first reason why the key is stuck is because the key is worn out. The second reason it might not be coming out is because one of the parts in the ignition cylinder is stuck. We recommend that you call an automotive locksmith and they can make you a new key by the SUV’s VIN number, or they can just rekey the lock itself.

Spare key Kia Sedona
The Kia Sedona, depending on what year it is, can have either a transponder key or just a regular key. If you have just a regular key and have a spare key, you can just get a copy of it made at many hardware stores. One of the hardware stores we recommend trying is Ace Hardware. If you have a transponder key, you can get a copy made through a locksmith or at a Kia dealership.
