The best place to buy a quality Nissan Intelligent key will be at a Nissan dealership.
If you want to save some money you can buy used Nissan Intelligent keys, also known as aftermarket keys, for a lower price at salvage car key companies or at online stores such as: Ikeyless, Keylessride, Amazon or Ebay. If you do buy a key with one of these companies, make sure to ask for a warranty just in case the key is damaged or won’t program to your car.
Do Nissan/Infiniti Intelligent keys cost more?
Yes. As of today, 03/2017, 2017 Nissan Maxima Intelligent keys cost around $180.00. That is just for the key blank itself without any programing or other services. A regular transponder key for a 2006 Nissan Maxima costs about $50.00. That is also just for the key blank itself. If you go to a dealership or use locksmith services, other fees such as a service call fee and/or programing fees will apply.

How to program a Nissan/Infiniti key fob/Intelligent key?
Nissan/Infiniti does not make these keys available to program to the public without using the right professional programing tools. Today, you may be able to find other companies online that will sell these keys to the public with the programing machines included.
We urge you to use a locksmith company or a Nissan dealership first. Both a locksmith company and a dealership will use the most advanced tools and you should receive a warranty for the programing and the keys.
Both a locksmith company and a dealership will be able to sell and program a key for you even when you have no key at all. It may cost more but is the safest way to go for your car, and in many cases will save you time.
Nissan Intelligent key replacement
If you lost your Nissan Intelligent key and have no spare, you can have a mobile locksmith company or a Nissan dealership make you a new key.
The difference between the two will be the cost and service. By using a dealership you will be able to save some money, but a locksmith will provide faster service. Either way, it is always a good idea to shop around between a few locksmith companies and the dealership.
What is the difference between using a locksmith company and a dealership?
Besides the difference in cost, a locksmith company will have the ability to bring a programing machine to your vehicle’s location whereas a dealership will ask you to tow your vehicle in.
You cannot program Intelligent keys without your vehicle being present.
Why can’t I program an Intelligent key without my car being present?
The Intelligent key belongs to an anti-theft system. The electronic chip that is located inside the Intelligent key is not powered by a battery like the rest of the key. The battery in the key is there only to lock and unlock the doors and to trigger the alarm.
The anti-theft electronic chip that needs to be programmed to your car in order to start it is there to be able to communicate wirelessly with the vehicle’s anti-theft system. The anti-theft system is a system to prevent the car from being stolen.
To program an Intelligent key you have to physically connect a programming machine to the vehicle’s computer and register the new key to the car’s computer.
