What can you do if you have lost your VW Jetta car keys in Denver, Colorado and you have no spare key? How can you replace your key? Here are some options you have that we would like to share with you.
Spare key for Jetta
If your Jetta is from the years 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, or 1998, then you have a very simple key that you can copy in many hardware stores or even a locksmith store. If your Jetta is between the years 1999 to 2013, then you have a high security key. You can copy these keys at a VW dealership or with a locksmith. If you have lost the key and have no spare to copy from and you Jetta is from the years 1980 to 1998, then you can disassemble the ignition lock, door lock, or trunk lock and get the information from there. Most of the Jetta’s in these years will have a key code stamped on the lock. If your Jetta is a later model, you will not have the key code on the locks and at that point we recommend that you use a locksmith company or VW dealership to get the key information.

There are two places you can cut and program these keys. One is a locksmith company and the other is a dealership. The difference between these two places is the locksmith will come to you, saving you time and money. You will have to get your car to a dealership and pay towing fees.

Jetta key won’t go in ignition or key is stuck in ignition
If your Jetta key is stuck in the ignition or won’t go into the ignition, you either have a worn out key or one of the wafers in the ignition is stuck. Making a copy of your worn-out key will not fix the problem. You will need to call a locksmith or have your car towed to a dealership to have a new key made. If one of the wafers is stuck, you will need to call a locksmith to have them re-key your ignition.
