Now, to make key copies or “Key Device” copies for cars is a bit more complicated and while we are NEVER limited in what we can accomplish when we copy keys or key devices for cars we can be situationally confined by what we must work with. You see, prior to about 1985 key replacement for a car was a pretty straight forward mechanical exercise where you could secure the key pattern from the VIN number and then it was a matter of car key cutting. And we still do that but in the ‘80s car makers started implementing transponder keys which are coded or programmed to an individual car and these have evolved into a “Keyless” key fob devices for the ignition and remote keyless entry to the car. Basically a car remote like the ones for your home entertainment devices. So, when you need a replacement key fob or a replacement transponder key you’re going to require car key programming or key fob programming. Please understand, simply for a set of modern duplicate car keys you can just bring us the original transponder or fob and we can proceed from there. But if the keys are lost, we need to have the car at our shop or we must go to the car. If you can get the car to our shop that saves you the mobile locksmith fee.
