In most of the years the Nissan Sentra has just a simple car key. These keys are usually very easy to make. If you lost the key, or just need a key copy, we recommend that you shop around between Nissan dealerships and automotive locksmith companies. In many cases we find that Nissan dealerships have great prices for Nissan keys. The main difference between the dealership and a locksmith company is that the locksmith will be able to come to your car’s location and make you a working key on spot. The dealer will ask you to come in and in some cases bring your car in.
Did you know that between the years 1982 and 1993 the Nissan Sentra has a key code stamped on one of the locks of the car?
Nissan Sentra key replacement
When you have lost the key to your car the most common places to get a new key will be with a dealership or a locksmith company.
The cost for your key will depend on your Nissan Sentra year.
- If your Nissan Sentra was made in the years 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, or 2006, then you have just a regular key with no features. This key does not have a chip and does not need to be programed to your car.
- If your Nissan Sentra was made in the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, or 2013, then you can have one of two different keys. It might be a transponder chip key, or a Prox Fob Smart Key. Either way, both of these types of keys need to be programmed to your car with professional tools. A locksmith or the dealership can program these keys for you.
Nissan Sentra key code
If your Nissan Sentra was made between the years 1982 to 1993, then you can save some money by doing some of the work yourself. Some people find it useful when they don’t have a locksmith or dealership nearby. You can disassemble the the passenger door lock, and on the tailpiece you can find the key code. The key code will be the last four numbers. In some of the Nissan Sentras, you can find the key code stamp on the glove box lock. After you get the key code, you can either take the lock itself or just the number to a locksmith and have them cut you a new key from the key code.
Nissan Sentra key stuck in ignition
If your key is stuck in the ignition, it can be because of a simple problem with the key, or a bigger problem with your ignition lock. What we recommend you to do is to try to make a new key either by your car’s VIN number or key code. If that doesn’t work, we recommend you to call a locksmith and have them rekey your ignition lock.
