GMC Acadia key replacement

Did you know that you can program a key to your GMC Acadia yourself, without using any professional tools?

Does your GMC Acadia have an electronic chip inside the key? What is your keys item number? How can you save some money when you need a new key made? Where can you get a key copy made and where can you get a replacement key made if you lost the only key you had? Mile High Locksmith™ would like to share some answers to these common questions.

If your GMC Acadia was made in the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 then your key has an electronic chip inside the key head which is invisible. This key has to be programmed to the vehicle in order for the vehicle to start.
You can program this key yourself or use a locksmith company or GM dealership to do it for you.
The difference between the locksmith company and the dealership is the type of service and prices. If you lost the key, the best solution will be to use a mobile locksmith company. The locksmith will be able to make you a working key at your trucks location.

Program GMC Acadia key

If you have some time and you want to save some money and have lost the key to your GMC Acadia here is what you can do:

First get a key blank to your truck. You can buy these keys at one of the many stores online. After you receive the key and don’t have any other key you can ask a locksmith to cut the key for you by using your trucks VIN number or key code. If you just need a key copy you can copy the key at one of the many hardware stores as well. After getting the proper cuts made to your new key this is how you program it:

Program a key if you lost the only key you had:

  1. Insert your new key that you just had cut into your ignition switch and turn it to the on position. The theft light on the dash will light up and stay on for ten minutes and then turn off.
  2. After the light goes off turn the ignition switch back on for another ten minutes.
  3. Do this once more to make a total of three times.
  4. When the theft light goes out it means your new key has been programmed.
  5. Now your truck is in the programming mode.
  6. If you want to program a second key in less than 20 seconds insert another cut key and turn the ignition switch to the on position. The theft light will go on and once it has gone out your second key is programmed.

Program a duplicate key:

  1. In order to program a key copy to your truck you will have to have two working keys already.
  2. Take one of your old keys and insert it into the ignition switch. Turn it to the on position. A theft light will light up. When the theft light goes out turn the ignition switch off and remove the key.
  3. Repeat the same steps again with your second old key.
  4. Now insert the new key you had copied and repeat the same steps one more time. After you remove your new key it will be programmed.

The best solution to fix the problem with your ignition switch is either by making a new key by your trucks VIN number, and if this doesn’t fix the problem, ask a locksmith to rekey your ignition cylinder.

Honda CRX Key

Honda Key Replacement

Did you know that Honda stamped the key code on the Honda CRX ignition, door, trunk and glove box lock? For your convenience to get the key code information, the key code will be the last four digits of the serial number.

The Honda CRX has just a simple key, or what we like to call an old fashioned key. What can you do if you have lost your key and need a replacement? Where can you get a key copy made? What is the reason that your ignition will not turn? Mile High Locksmith ™ is an expert automotive locksmith company and we would like to share some information with you that can be useful when you need to make a key for your Honda CRX.

Honda CRX key replacement

If you lost the key to your car, the place we recommend you get a key replacement is with an automotive locksmith company. The locksmith will be able to come to your car’s location and cut you a new key.

If you are looking to save some money, you can do some of the work yourself. Basically, the Honda CRX has the key code stamped on almost all the locks such as the ignition, door, trunk and glove box lock. The key code will be the last four numbers that you find stamped on the lock. The easiest way to get the keycode is by disassembling the glove box lock. If this doesn’t work, you should try to disassemble the trunk lock or the door lock if that doesn’t work. The last lock you should try will be the ignition lock.

After you have the lock in your hand, you can either read the key code to a locksmith or just give them the lock itself.
Sometimes the locksmith will not have the right key for your Honda CRX. If this is the case, some people find it useful to order the key from one of the many stores online such as ebay.com, amazon.com, or ikeyless.com. After you get the key blank in the mail, you can bring it to a locksmith shop with the key code information and get a new key made.

Below, we will share with you the key blank item number by your Honda CRX year:

  • If your Honda CRX was made in the years 1984, 1985, 1986 or 1987, then your key blank number will be X181.
  • If your Honda CRX was made in the years 1988, 1989, 1990, or 1991, then your key blank number will be X182.

Honda CRX key won’t turn in ignition

Over the years we have received phone calls from our customers after their key doesn’t turn the ignition. It is always a surprise to our customers to find out that the problem is not actually with the ignition lock and is with the key itself. Over the years after so much use, the key gets worn out. Even just a small modification to the key that the eye cannot even see, will be just enough to prevent the ignition switch from turning.

  • What we recommend you to do is to ask a locksmith to make you a new key either by your car’s keycode or VIN number. However, do not just try to make a copy of the old key.
  • If this did not fix the problem, you can ask a locksmith to rekey your locks.

Did you know that if you already have two working keys to your Dodge Avenger, you can program a duplicate key yourself?

Dodge Avenger key replacement

The Dodge Avenger was made between the years 1995 to 2000. Dodge stopped making this vehicle from 2001 to 2007, and then they started to make the vehicle again from 2008 until now. Over the years, Dodge has changed the keys for the Dodge Avenger. Below we will share some information with you about the Dodge Avenger key by the year.

  • If your Dodge Avenger was made in the years 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, or 2000, then your car requires just a regular key without any features. If you are looking to just make a key copy, you can make one in many hardware stores, or a locksmith shop. If you lost the key, a locksmith will be able to make you a new key right at your car’s location. If you want to save some money by doing the work yourself, you can disassemble the passenger door lock and find the key code stamp on this lock. A locksmith will be able to make you a new key from this key code.
  • If your Dodge Avenger was made in the years 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, or 2014, then your key has a hidden electronic chip inside. This key will have to be programed to your car. A locksmith company or Dodge dealership will be able to cut and program the key for you. Your car can have one type of two types of keys. It can be just a regular transponder chip key, also known as the grey colored key, or it can have a key fob. This one will have push buttons on it.
  • If your Dodge Avenger was made in the years between 2008 and 2014, you can program a third duplicate key yourself. Please read the paragraph below.

Make a Duplicate Key – You will have to have two working keys

To be able to program a duplicate key yourself, you will have to have two working keys. This means you can program a third key yourself. If you do not have two working keys, the only way to program another key is by using a locksmith company or a Dodge dealership.
If you do have two working keys, this is how you can save some money by doing some of the work yourself:
At first you will need to get a key blank. You can buy a key blank on many online stores. Some of them are ebay.com, amazon.com, or ikeyless.com. After you get the key blank in the mail, you can take it to a locksmith shop or Ace Hardware with one of your existing keys and ask them to copy the old key to your new key.
After you get your key copied, take all the keys with you, the two old ones and the new one, to your Dodge Avenger, and this is how you can program the third key yourself:

  • Insert the first old key you have into the ignition and turn the car to the run position.
  • In less than 15 seconds, but more from 5 seconds, turn the key back to the off position.
  • Remove the first key and insert the second old key and turn it to the on position. This must be done within 15 seconds from removing the first old key.
  • After you insert the second old key, wait about 10 seconds and a theft alarm will light up and you will hear a ding sound to let you know that your car has moved to the programming mode.
  • Within less than a minute, remove the second old key and insert your new key you want to program. Turn it to the on position.
  • After about 10 seconds, you will hear the ding sound and the theft alarm light will go off. After about 5 seconds you can turn the car to the off position and remove the key. Now your third key has been programmed.

Dodge Avenger ignition problems

If you have problems with your ignition, the problem may not be because of your ignition. You would be surprised at how many times we have found that the problem is caused because of the key. Just a small modification to the cuts on your key can be enough to stop the ignition from turning. The best fix we can recommend for this problem is to make a new key using your car’s VIN number or key code. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you will have to call a locksmith and have them rekey your lock.

No. Your Chevy Cavalier key is just a simple key in all years, and does not have any special features.

Chevy Cavalier key stuck in ignition

When your key is stuck in your ignition lock, this most likely will happen because of the key itself. What we recommend you do first is to stop trying to use this key on your car. The reason is because your key has gotten worn out over time. Another common reason that can cause this problem is because one of the parts in your ignition lock has gotten stuck.
Here are some solutions for these problems:

  • If your key is worn out, ask a locksmith to make you a new key by your car’s key code. Some locksmiths will be able to read the key cuts by just looking at the old worn out key. If your key is worn out, do not try to just make a copy of the key because this will not help.
  • If the problem is in your ignition lock, the solution for that will be to ask a locksmith to rekey your ignition lock.
