Where to get a new replacement key

What type of key does your Jeep Wrangler require? Where you can get a duplicate key or a new key replacement made? How can you tell if your Jeep Wrangler key has an electronic chip and if the key needs to be programmed? What is the difference between the black color and the gray color of Jeep keys? These are some of the common questions our customers ask us and we would like to answer these questions for you here.

Did you know that the gray colored key head for your Jeep Wrangler means your key is a transponder chip key?

Jeep has changed the keys over the years for the Jeep Wrangler. Below we will list the different types of keys for the Jeep Wrangler by the year:

If your Jeep was made in the years 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, or 1996, then your key has no features and it doesn’t need to be programed.
If your Jeep was made in the years 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, or 2001 then your key can be just a regular key that won’t need to be programmed. It can also be a key with a chip that requires programing. The easier way to find out is by the key color. The gray color has a chip when a black color key doesn’t.
If your Jeep was made in the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, or 2006, than your key will need to be programmed to your SUV.
In the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, you have the option for just a regular transponder chip key or a push button key fob remote combo.
Where to get a new replacement key

You can have a key duplicate or a new key made with a locksmith company or at a Jeep dealership. The difference between the two will be the cost and the type of service.
The locksmith will be able to make you a new working key at your Jeep’s location when the dealer will ask you to come in or even bring your Jeep in. What we recommend you to do is to shop around for prices between the two.

Spare key for Jeep Wrangler
You can only program a third key yourself for your Jeep Wrangler without using any equipment.
If you do have two keys already, and you wish to make a new duplicate key, you can save some money by doing some of the work yourself and this is how:
You can buy the grey colored transponder key or a key for a remote combo in many stores online or with a locksmith or a Jeep dealership. When you get the new key take it to a hardware store like Ace Hardware or a locksmith shop and have them copy one of your existing keys to the new key you just brought. After you get the new key copied, take your two old keys and the new one you have just made and follow these steps for programing your new key:

Insert one of the two old keys into the ignition lock and turn it on. After the key has been in the on position for at least five seconds, but no more than 15 seconds, turn the ignition back off.
Remove the key and insert the second old key and turn it on within 15 seconds. A theft alarm light should light up after ten seconds and a single ding sound will tell you know that your car is ready to program your new key.
Turn the second key off within 60 seconds and remove the key. Insert the new key you want to program and turn to the on position. After about ten seconds, a single ding will sound and the theft alarm light will stop. Wait five seconds and turn it off.
Your new key is now programmed and to program another key you will have to repeat the steps all over again.

Jeep Wrangler key won’t turn
We can safely say that we have been repairing keys and locks for the Jeep Wrangler for many years. You would be surprised to know how many times we found problems such as the key won’t turn or is stuck in the ignition lock or door lock. We found many times that the problem can be just with the key. The best fix for that will be to make a new key by your Jeep VIN number. If this doesn’t fix the problem the next best repair you can do is by asking a locksmith to either rekey your lock or change the ignition cylinder.

Ford Focus key

Ford key replacement

Does your Ford Focus key have an electronic chip inside of it? Where and how can you get a new replacement key made if you lost your key? What do you need in order to make a duplicate key for your Ford Focus? These are some of the common questions our customers ask and we would like to answer these questions for you here. Mile High Locksmith TM is an automotive locksmith company. We know everything about Ford Focus keys and locks that there is to know.

How much does a locksmith charge to unlock a Ford Focus? The Ford Focus is a very easy vehicle to unlock. When you call for a locksmith they should give you the total price over the phone for that service and stick with this price when the work is done.

Ford Focus key replacement

In order to know what type of key your Ford Focus requires, you will need to know your Focus year. Over the years, Ford has changed the keys for the Ford Focus. Below we will list for you the type of keys the Ford Focus has by the year.

If your Ford Focus was made in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, or 2010, then you have just a regular transponder chip key.
If your Ford Focus was made in the year 2011, then you can have two different types of keys. You can have either just a regular transponder chip key or a key fob remote combo.
If your Ford Focus was made in the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 or 2016 then you have a key fob remote combo.
For Ford Focus from 2000 to 2016 you have an electronic chip hidden inside the key head. These keys have to be programed to your sedan’s immobilizer. If you lost the key you will not be able to program these keys yourself. You will need a professional to program it for you. If you just need a duplicate key, please read the paragraph called, “Ford Focus Key Programming.” If you lost the key, you can have these keys made and programed at a couple of places. The first one, and most convenient, will be with an automotive locksmith. The second will be at a Ford dealership. We recommend you to shop around for prices and the type of service they do.
Ford Focus key programming
As a part of the security for the Ford Focus, Ford is giving you the option to program a duplicate key yourself. However, you will have to have two working keys already, and one new key you want to program, to be able to program the key without any expensive machines. If you do not have two working keys already, you will need to use a professional to program a key.

If you do have two working keys and you do want to program a third working key, this is how:

At first you will need to purchase a new key and have the key cut to your car. You can buy these keys at many stores online. After you receive the new key you just bought you can simply take the new key and one of your existing keys to a hardware store or a locksmith shop and ask them to copy your old key to the new key. One of the hardware stores we recommend you try is Ace Hardware. You can also buy these keys at a locksmith company or Ford dealership. After you cut your new key take your two old keys, and the new key you have just made, (a total of 3 keys,) to your Ford Focus and follow these steps to program your new key:

Insert one of your old working keys into the ignition switch.
Turn the ignition to the on position and back off again.
Remove the key and, within five seconds, insert your second old key and turn it to the one position and back off again.
Insert your new key that you have just made, and in less than ten seconds turn it to the on position. Leave it on for one second and turn your ignition switch back off.
After you turn off the ignition switch you will see the security light light up for about three seconds to tell you that your car has entered the programming mode for your new key.
Now you will need to leave your key untouched for a minimum of 10 minutes. Do not attempt to start the car and leave the key in the on position.
If for some reason you turn the key, start the car, or even take the key out, you will cancel the programming mode. Then in order to program the key you will need to restart the whole process again.

Ford Focus key wont come out of ignition
The Ford Focus has been known to have a problem with the ignition. If your key got stuck in the ignition, or your ignition lock simply just stopped working, we believe that most likely your ignition cylinder will need to be replaced. However, we encourage you to first try and make a new key, either by the VIN number or key code, but not a key copy. If that doesn’t work, you will either need to rekey or change your ignition lock. A locksmith company or Ford dealership will be able to do this type of work for you.

Mercury Sable key

mercury grand marquis key replacement

Mercury Sable keys have changed over the years. Some of the vehicles have two different keys, one for the doors and one for the trunk. Some of the keys are transponder chip keys that require a special diagnostic tool to connect to your car’s computer in order to program the key. In the later years you can have a remote control key fob that unlocks and locks the doors. Where can you get a new replacement key made? Does your Mercury Sable key have a chip inside of it? What is the reason why your ignition has problems? Where can you repair it? How can you save some money by making your own key? These are some of the most common questions asked about the Mercury Sable. We would like to answer these questions for you.

Mercury Sable key replacement

If you lost your key or just need a key copy, the cost of making a new replacement key for your Mercury Sable depends on your car’s year. Below, we will share information on what type of key your Mercury Sable requires by the year:

  • If your Mercury Sable was made in the years 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, or 1995, then your car requires two keys. These keys have no features such as an electronic chip inside of them. They do not need to be programed to your car. One key works on the ignition and doors, and one key works on the trunk and glove box.
  • If your Mercury Sable was made in 1996, then some of the cars have a transponder chip key and some don’t. A locksmith or Mercury dealership will be able to check it for you. If you do have a transponder chip key, you can program this key yourself without using any special tools. For more information, read the paragraph below called “Mercury Sable key programming.”
  • If your Mercury Sable was made in the year 1997, then some of the cars will have a transponder key, and some won’t. A locksmith or Mercury dealership will be able to check it for you. If you have a transponder chip key, you will have to use a professional to program it for you.
  • If your Mercury Sable was made in the years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, or 2006, then your Mercury Sable requires a transponder chip key. To make these keys, you will either have to use a locksmith or Mercury dealership.
  • If your Mercury Sable was made in the years 2007, 2008, or 2009, then you have the option to have one of two different keys. The first will be just a regular transponder chip key and the second option will be to have a remote key fob. In simple words, the remote key fob is a key that has push buttons on the keyhead to lock and unlock the doors.
  • If you lost the key to your Mercury Sable, the two most convenient places to get a new replacement key will be an automotive locksmith company or Mercury dealership. The difference between the two will be the prices and type of service. The locksmith will be able to come to your car’s location and make you a working key on spot, whereas the dealership will ask you to bring the car in. We always recommend to shop around between the two.

Mercury Sable key programming

For the Mercury Sable that was made in the year 1996, you can save some money by doing some of the work yourself. You can find many transponder chip keys and remotes at stores online for a very low cost. You can order a new key that normally takes about 3 days delivery with regular mail. After you get the key, you can take it to a locksmith store and ask them to cut it for you by your car’s VIN number. When you have your new key cut, take it to your Mercury Sable and this is how you program it yourself:

  • Insert the new key into your ignition switch and turn it to the on position. The security light on the dash will flash for about fifteen minutes.
  • When the security light stops flashing, you have five minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition switch off and then back on again. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.
  • When the security light stops flashing, you have five minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition switch off and then back to the on again. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen more minutes. After the security light stops flashing for the third time, the new key has been programmed into the vehicle’s computer and will work on the car. It is now the only key that will work on the car.

From 1998 to 2009 we always recommend our customers have 3 working keys for their Mercury Sable.
The reason is because most people normally use only one key for their car. This key tends to wear out or break from overuse. If you have 3 keys, (2 spare keys and one key you use,) and the key that you use gets damaged, you can save some money by ordering a new key online. Then take the new key with one of the 2 spare keys you have to a locksmith store or hardware store and ask them to copy it for you. After you get the key copied, take all 3 keys, (2 spares and the new key,) to your Mercury Sable. This is how you program your new key:

  • Insert one of your spare keys into the ignition switch.
  • Turn the ignition switch on and back off again.
  • Remove that key and, within five seconds, insert the second spare key and turn it on and back off again.
  • Insert the new key before ten seconds has gone by and turn it to the on position. Leave it on for one second and turn back off.
  • The security light will light up for three seconds to let you know that the new key will work on your car now.

Mercury Sable key stuck in ignition
If your key did get stuck in the ignition, we recommend you to stop trying to force the key out and call a locksmith right away. We recommend you to ask them to pull the key out with their special tools and have them make you a new key by your car’s VIN number. If that doesn’t help to fix the problem, they will be able to rekey your ignition lock and just repair the ignition.

Jeep Patriot key

Jeep key replacement

Does your Jeep Patriot have a transponder chip key?

Where can you make a duplicate key or even a new key if you have lost the only key you had for your Jeep Patriot?

What is the reason why your key doesn’t turn the ignition, or is stuck in the ignition? Where and how can you repair your key remote? These are some of the common questions we receive from our customers. We would like to share the answers with you.

Jeep Patriot key replacement

  • If your Jeep Patriot was made in the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, or 2013, then you have a transponder chip key. Besides the key turning your ignition lock, it also has a wireless connection to your vehicle which transmits a code to let the vehicle know that that is the owners key to the Jeep. This key needs to be programmed to your SUV and if you have no key, you will need to have a professional program this key for you. The two places we recommend you try will be a Jeep dealership or a locksmith company. The locksmith will be able to come to your Jeep’s location and make you a working key on spot. The dealer will ask you to bring the Jeep Patriot in. If you just need a duplicate key, read about your options in the paragraph below called Spare key for Jeep Patriot.
  • Your Jeep Patriot can have two different types of transponder chip keys. The first looks like a normal key without anything except gray colored plastic on the key head. The second one will be a key fob remote with push buttons on the key head to lock and unlock the doors and a red panic button. The difference between the two will be the cost.

Jeep Patriot key fob not working

If your push button remote key got damaged, either the buttons got ripped off of the shell, or the shell itself got cracked, you can actually replace these parts by yourself. Many online stores will sell you just these parts with instruction on how to do it.

Spare key for Jeep Patriot

You have three different options to make a duplicate key for your Jeep Patriot. The first one, and the most convenient way, will be with a locksmith company. The locksmith will come to your location and make you a duplicate key for you right on spot.
The second option you have is to go to a Jeep dealership.
The third option, and the cheapest way, will be to make the key yourself, although there is a catch. As a part of your Jeep Patriot security, Jeep asks that you have two working keys to be able to program a third key.
This is why it is not such a bad idea to always have three keys. Two keys as spares and one key to use. If you have three keys, and the key that you are using is damaged beyond repair, you can save some money by purchasing a new key online. There are many places you can purchase these keys. After you get a new transponder chip key for your Jeep Patriot, you can take one of the two old keys you already have and the new key to a place like Ace hardware or a locksmith shop and have it copied.
When you have your two old keys and the new key in your hand, take all three of them to your Jeep Patriot and this is how you program the new key:

Jeep Patriot key programming

  • Insert one of the two working keys into the ignition lock and turn it to the on position.
  • After the key has been in the on position for at least five seconds, but no more than 15 seconds, turn the ignition switch back to off.
  • Remove that key and insert the second working key. Turn it to the ON position within 15 seconds. (The second key has to be different from the first key.)
  • A theft alarm light should light up after about ten seconds and a single ding sound will tell you that you are ready to program the third key.
  • Turn the key to the off position within 60 seconds and remove the second working key.
  • Insert the new key and turn it to the on position.
  • After about ten seconds, a single ding will sound and the theft alarm light will stop. Wait five seconds and turn the ignition switch to the off position.
  • If you bought more than one key, you will have to repeat the steps for each key you want to program.

Jeep Patriot key stuck in ignition

If your key got stuck in the ignition, or doesn’t turn the ignition, first we recommend that you stop trying to force the key. You have a common problem that can be fixed at a low cost. Basically, there are two common reasons this can happen. The first will be that your key is simply worn out. You may not even see any changes with your key. Just a small modification can make this happen. The second reason, and the more expensive to fix, is that one of the parts inside the ignition lock got stuck. To repair this, you will need to ask a locksmith to rekey your ignition lock.

GMC Jimmy Key

B102 key blank

In general, the GMC Jimmy SUV has one of the most simple keys to make. These keys have no additional features and do not have an electronic chip inside. They are also very easy to copy. If you are just needing a duplicate key made, you can copy it at Ace Hardware or at a locksmith shop. Mile High Lock and Key, LLC has been working with GMC Jimmy SUV keys and locks for many years and would like to share some information with you about GMC Jimmy keys.

Did you know that you can find a key code stamp for your GMC Jimmy on the ignition lock from the year 1976 to 2005?

Lost key for GMC Jimmy
If you lost the key to your SUV and your GMC Jimmy was made in the years:
1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, or 2002, then most likely the only option you have to make a new key will be with an automotive locksmith company. If your GMC Jimmy was made in the years 2003, 2004 or 2005, you will have two options to get a new replacement key. The first one will be with a locksmith and the second one will be with a GMC dealership. For the earlier years, the dealership will not have the key information in the system, whereas the locksmith will have the information.
The locksmith will have all different types of tools to get a new key replacement for you. One of the most common ways to make a new key will be by using your SUV VIN number or key code.
From the year 1976 to 2005, the key for your GMC Jimmy should work on your glove box, trunk, doors, and the ignition switch. Sometimes if one of the locks in the vehicle goes bad, it is a common thing to just replace one of the locks on the vehicle which will make the vehicle have two different keys. If you had two different keys to your GMC Jimmy and you lost the keys, making the two keys will become more difficult because the key code and VIN number will not work on one of the keys.

Kia Optima key

Kia key programming

What type of a key does your Kia Optima require? Does your Kia Optima need to be programed to your sedan, or in different words, does your Kia Optima key have a chip inside of it? Where can you make a key copy, or what can you do if you need a new replacement key made? What will be the cost to make a new key?

In general, for most of the years, Kia has made just a simple key and lock installed in the Kia Optima sedan. These keys are very easy to make, and how and where you can make a new key depends on your Kia Optima year. The first two places that we always recommend to shop around for prices for copying your or for getting a duplicate key made, will be a Kia dealership, or a locksmith company. The difference between the two will be the price and type of service you get. The dealership will ask you to bring your Kia sedan in, whereas the locksmith will be the most convenient way, by quickly coming to your Kia Optima location and making you a new working key right on spot.

Kia Optima key replacement cost

  • If you lost the key and have no spare, and your Kia Optima was made in the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011, then you have just a regular key. Between the years 2009 to 2013, it’s possible that you have a special key that is called a OEM Smart Key, or a remote key. It depends on where your Kia Optima was originally made. It is possible that your Kia was made in Canada or in the US and this can affect the type of key you have.
  • If your Kia Optima was made in the years 2012 or 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 or 2017 then you have a OEM Smart key or also known as a remote key.
  • What is the difference between a regular key to a OEM Smart key? The difference is that a regular key will simply look like an old fashioned key. This key has no special features and is used manually to unlock the doors and turn on the ignition switch. What is a Smart key? AKA Kia Optima smart key remote start, these keys need to be cut with a laser high security machine and will also need to be programmed to your sedan.

Kia Optima key won’t turn

There may be two reasons why your Kia Optima key won’t turn your ignition switch. Either a small change has been made on the key over time. This change can be so small you can’t see it, but it is enough to make your key stop working. You will need to make a new key either by the VIN number or key code. You can have this done at a Kia dealership or through a locksmith. The second reason why your Kia Optima key won’t turn, is a piece in the ignition switch might be broken and you will need to rekey your ignition switch. A locksmith can do this for you.

Sometimes customers have the problem that their key won’t turn the ignition. Basically, there are two reasons why this problem may happen. One reason is if your key is overused and just a small part on the key changes. For this problem, we recommend that you have a new key made using the VIN number or key code. You can do this at a Dodge dealership or with a locksmith company. The second reason this problem may happen is if your ignition switch stops working. If this is the case, a locksmith will be able to fix your ignition switch for you by rekeying it.

Spare key for Dodge Durango

At first if you are looking to make an additional key to your Dodge Durango, you can program a key yourself. But before you can do this you need to understand the Dodge security system. As a part of the security system, Dodge asks the owners to have two cut and programed keys to be able to program a third key. This is one of the reasons we always recommend that any Dodge Durango owner has three keys total. Two keys as spares, and one key to use. In the long run, it always will save you some money.
This is how it works:
These days you can buy Dodge Durango transponder chip keys, remote and key combos, Smart key/Fobik keys, or a Flip key. Buying these keys online will have huge discounts rather than buying them from a Dodge dealership or locksmith company. After you get these keys in the mail, you can take the key to a professional place and have them cut and programmed for you. Or, if you already have two working keys, you can program the third key yourself. This is how:

  • Have your new key you just purchased cut. You can do this with a locksmith company or at Ace Hardware.
  • Insert one of the two old working keys you have into the ignition switch and turn it to the on position.
  • Leave the key in the on position for about five to fifteen seconds. (No more than fifteen seconds.) Turn it back to the off position.
  • Take the key out and put in the second old working key you have. Turn it to the on position again for five to fifteen seconds, but no longer than fifteen seconds.
  • A theft alarm light should come on after about ten seconds and you will hear a ding sound telling you that your SUV is ready to program your new duplicate key.
  • Turn the key to the off position within one minute and remove the key.
  • Insert your new, third, key and turn the ignition switch to the on position.
  • After about ten seconds you will head a sound and the theft alarm light will stop. Wait five seconds and turn the ignition switch to the off position.

Isuzu Rodeo key

Isuzu key blank

Did you lose your Isuzu Rodeo key?
Did your key get stuck in the ignition? Does your Isuzu Rodeo key have a chip inside of it? Did your key break? Where can you get a new replacement key made or a key copied?

Mile High Locksmith™ has been working with locks and keys for the Isuzu Rodeo for many years. We would like to share some information with you about the Isuzu Rodeo’s locks and keys.

Isuzu Rodeo key replacement

In general, the Isuzu Rodeo keys are very easy to make. From the year 1991 to the year 2007 your key is supposed to unlock the doors and trunk as well as start the engine. If for some reason you have two keys for your SUV, it means that the previous owner must have changed one of the locks. Isuzu has changed the keys for Isuzu Rodeos two times. Below, we will share a list with you of what type of a key your Isuzu Rodeo requires by the year.

  • If your Isuzu Rodeo was made in the years 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, or 2002, then your key is just a regular key without any special features. If you lost the key, an automotive locksmith will be able to make you a new key.
  • If your Isuzu Rodeo was made in the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, or 2007, then about 90% of Isuzu Rodeos were made with a transponder chip key. This key will need to be programmed to your vehicle. You cannot program this key yourself. If you lost your key and need a replacement, we recommend that you try a couple of places. The first place is with an Isuzu dealership and the second place is with an automotive locksmith company. We also recommend that you shop around for the best price between the two. The locksmith will be much more convenient. They will be able to come to your SUV location and cut and program you a key right on spot.

Spare key for Isuzu Rodeo
Isuzu Rodeo keys are normally very simple to make or copy. If your SUV was made before 2003, you can have the key copied at hardware stores, a locksmith shop, or at a Isuzu dealership. One of the hardware stores we recommend to try is Ace Hardware.
If you need to copy a key for your Isuzu Rodeo for the years 2003 and up, copying the key will require programming the key as well. To save money, you can try buying the key blanks online and take them to a locksmith shop and ask them to copy and program the key for you. A few of the websites we recommed you look at are Ebay.com, Ikeyless.com and Amazon.com.

Isuzu Rodeo ignition key won’t turn
We do see that the Isuzu Rodeo is sharing a common problem with many other vehicles that have the same type of keys. The two most common reasons why your key will stop turning the ignition or break, is either your key is worn out or one of the parts inside the ignition cylinder called a wafer is stuck. Even if you don’t see any problem with your key and it was working fine for a long time, just a very small modification will make it stop working. For a key that is worn out, we recommend that you get a new one made using the VIN number or key code. If making a new key does not fix the problem, we recommend you to ask a locksmith to rekey the ignition cylinder.
