Here are some pictures of a lock repair job we did in Cherry Creek. In the pictures you can see we didn’t really change the double sided deadbolt. The locks had a small problem and we were able to fix it:

  1. My girlfriend works as a shift supervisor in a cafe/brasserie. Part of her duties include opening the cafe at 7:30 am and getting the cafe up and running for the day, she is supplied with a set of keys to open the front door. This morning whilst opening the front door she has the misfortune to have the key break off in the lock resulting in the cafe being opened several hours late. My girlfriend called the cafe owner who told her to call a locksmith, the locksmith resolved the problem and charged £160. Later in the day, the owner turned up and asked that my girlfriend pay half of the repair bill. I would like to know what the legality of this situation is? My girlfriend is a full time employee at he cafe and has been there for 2 years, she has an employment contract but I cant see anything in it about paying for repairs. I would like to know if her employer can demand this kind of payment for damage?

  2. It’s as if the ignition switch is locked but there is no lock button. I tried a spare key and that won’t work either. Do I call a locksmith or a car repair shop?

  4. Couple years back my mom left her keys in the car and she called a locksmith to get it out and the locksmith disabled the driver side lock somehow so that when I put the key in, it turns but doesn’t unlock. I have to go alll the way over to the passenger side to unlock the door then go back to driver side to get in. Is there anything that I have to buy to repair this or can I fix it myself by taking the door panel off and repairing some kind rod or whatever is in there.
Also, I’m worrying about it now because she gave the car to me, so now it’s my responsibility.

  5. If I were to purchase a deadbolt lock at Home Depot, how hard or easy would it be for me to change it myself? I am somewhat mechanically inclinded (but not really), but I have very little experience in maintenence repairs, etc. I can read & follow directions pretty well, as far as installation instructions….

I’d prefer to avoid paying an over-inflated fee to a locksmith to do something I may possibly be able to do myself.
Also, I really don’t like it when a reapir/service person won’t even give me a ballpark figure over the phone, and yet they charge a flat-rate fee JUST TO SHOW UP. I mean…. I have made it clear that I am not looking for an exact quote–just a ballpark figure, is all.
I’d really prefer to do this myself, if possible.

How can I become a licensed technician who can be a subcontractor for my current company?

  11. When I originally bought my car, I received two keys. One only works for the ignition and the glove compartment, so I’m guessing that’s the original key.. And the other only opens the drivers side door. My friend has the EXACT same car (1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS) and he has ONE key that does it all. My trunk and Passenger side door won’t open with either keys. Any ideas? Is it possibly that there are different lock cylinders around the car, or maybe somethings just wrong with the locks themselves? Thanks a lot.

  13. I have a Brinks lock that someone else changed the combination on then forgot it, it’s one of the ones that have a seperate dial for each number in the combination (IE if the combination was 1-2-3-4 you would set the first dial to 1, the second to 2, and so on). How can you find the combination to these? Or does anyone know of any demonstration videos?
The lock isn’t on anything, so I don’t want to cut it. I want to be able to open it so I can use it.

  16. And roughly how much would it cost to have those locks (and the glove box lock) replaced? Not for parts, just labor; I will purchase the lock set on my own.
Its for a 67 Chevelle, which is why I said I could buy the parts; I haven’t bought them yet, just investigating. I’d rather not leave the car at the shop, which is why I ask about a house call. Unless they could do same day service.

  25. What I am saying is, in the US, if your house’s front door looks like a wood door, is it possible there is an inner layer of metal between two layers of wood, so it looks good and very secure as well. In those hollywood movies, whenever a door appears on screen, it looks like a wood door, how can a wood door protect anything. I am simply curious. Also, how about the key? If you lose your key, who is responsible for unlocking the door for you? The fire department, or a privately owned business who repair locks and also can unlock doors and charge you a fee? If so, how the government regulate this type of businesses, given the special nature of their services. Do they provide 24-hour service? How can you convince those guys you are the owner or tenant of the house, so you can authorize them to unlock the house for you?

  44. What should I be looking for? I know city and state requirements differ from city to city or state to state, but what are the basic things I should be expecting during the purchasing, repairing, and renting the property? I am looking at three properties which are bank repos and the price is pretty reasonable.
These properties were orignally single family homes not rental properties.

  63. My husband was being funny and was holding it locked so I couldn’t get in, ha ha ha. Now, from the outside, the key won’t go in all the way to turn. It works fine from the inside, locks and unlocks, but we want to lock it from the outside. Help please. Serious answers only.

  67. I currently work for a third party company that dispatches locksmith and CCTV techs to repair locks and cameras. I plan to shadow a CCTV tech that I’ve become close with on weekends, my only worry is what licenses do I need to complete the work on my own?

How can I become a licensed technician who can be a subcontractor for my current company?
